Director's Notes: "Lydie Breeze takes place on the island of Nantucket. It is the third part in a series of plays tracing the lives of a group of idealists in the nineteenth century. Lydie Breeze, the last in the series, is set in 1895. The second, Gardenia, cover 1975-85, and the first, Women and Water, takes place in 1861 and 1864. Taken as a whole, the series traces the spiritual course of the United States from the Civil War to the twentieth century-the moment in history when its innocence was slowly being transformed by sordid experience and adventurism."
